Thank you for visiting the Tsu High School website.
Our school originated in January 1880, opening as Tsu Junior High School on the historic grounds of the former Tsu Domain school, "Yuzokan." Over the decades, our institution evolved alongside Japan's educational landscape: renamed Mie Prefecture First Junior High School in 1899, and later Mie Prefectural Tsu Junior High School in 1919.
A definitive milestone arrived in 1948 under the post-war education reform, when Mie Prefectural Tsu Junior High School and Mie Prefectural Tsu Girls' High School merged. This unified institution officially formalized its modern identity as Mie Prefectural Tsu High School in 1955, remaining a cornerstone of academic excellence to this day.
Having proudly forged its history across five imperial eras—Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa—this year marks our milestone 146th anniversary. We remain deeply committed to honoring this rich tradition while continuously inspiring the leaders of tomorrow.
Currently, Tsu High School houses eight classes per grade level, welcoming a vibrant student body of approximately 960 students. Our core vision is to be an institution that fosters future leaders with high intelligence and deep cultural awareness, rooted firmly in a free-spirited atmosphere and our time-honored motto of "independence and self-reliance." We strive to bring this vision to life in every facet of our daily educational activities.
In the classroom, we effectively leverage cutting-edge ICT equipment to deliver interactive learning experiences. Rather than passive listening, our curriculum is designed to cultivate true academic capability. We empower students to think logically, articulate their own ideas clearly, and proactively collaborate while understanding and accepting diverse perspectives.
Beyond academics, we are deeply committed to "creating a school where students are the true protagonists." Major school events, including our dynamic sports and cultural festivals, alongside our competitive club activities, are managed entirely through student autonomy. We highly respect our students' initiative and independent will.
Looking toward the future, we have taken a pioneering step. Beginning with our incoming 2026 freshman class, we have proudly introduced Mie Prefecture’s very first "college preparatory credit system." Paired with our 60-minute classes and structured teacher office hours, this forward-thinking framework ensures our students experience a highly proactive, deeply enriching, and supportive three years of high school.
First designated as a Super Science High School (SSH) by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2007, our school is now entering its landmark 20th year in the program.
Under this initiative, all students engage in an immersive, three-year scientific research project. From defining unique research themes and designing methodologies to executing experiments, evaluating surveys, analyzing data, and authoring formal scientific papers, our students experience the full spectrum of academic inquiry.
Extending this vision globally, our sister school partnership with Kaohsiung Municipal ChungShan Senior High School in Taiwan offers a truly collaborative international experience. Students from both campuses team up online to establish joint research themes and execute peer-to-peer projects. This deep digital collaboration culminates in bilateral exchange visits, where students travel to each other's campuses to present their scientific findings and build lasting cross-cultural friendships.
At Tsu High School, we focus on initiatives that empower our students to engage with diverse groups of people and gather unique experiences both inside and outside the classroom. We also deeply value opportunities to connect with great historical thinkers through literature, heavily utilizing our exceptional library, which has proudly been recognized as a former "Library of the Year."
Building upon our rich traditions and historic achievements, our faculty and staff remain dedicated to executing future-focused reforms that honor your trust and expectations. Together, we work tirelessly to inspire vivid dreams and enduring hope in our student body. Our ultimate goal is to ensure every individual leads a safe, meaningful, and vibrant campus life—graduating as a proud Tsu High School alumnus equipped with high intelligence, cultural refinement, and a compassionate, well-rounded character.
